Mel Smith

Chairman

Mel Smith joined the MARCH Foundation as a board member in 2006 and currently serves as Chairman. Mel started as a package car driver in the South California District in April 1968 after returning home from a stint in Vietnam in the United States Navy.

Mel drove feeders until 1976, when he was promoted into management as Feeder Supervisor. Mel went on to work in Hub Operations and Package Operations as a Supervisor, Manager and Division Manager in the Metro Los Angeles, West Los Angeles and Southeast California districts before taking on an assignment in the Indiana District as a Feeder Division Manager in 1991. Mel was promoted to President of the Northwest Ohio District in 1993. In 1995 Mel accepted the assignment of President of the Atlantic District in Baltimore, MD, where he retired in February 2002 after 34 years of service.

Mel also works with the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association whose mission is to introduce minority youths to the game of golf and to provide financial assistance to college bound students.

Mel has been married to his wife Debra for 55 years and they are the proud parents of 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
