Joel Stenson

Board Member

Joel Stenson is Global President of United Parcel Service (UPS) Buildings and Systems Engineering (BaSE).

Joel began his career with UPS in 1994, working in the Buildings and Systems Engineering (BaSE) function, while attending college. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology.

Joel’s team holds Global responsibility for Research and Development, Engineering Design, Contracts and Standards, Facility and System Construction, Maintenance and Technical Support, Regulatory Compliance, and the Facility Safety Program within UPS’ Global network of data centers and operational facilities, across all business units.

With over 5,000 employees, Joel and his team manage the BaSE Function’s P/L contribution, with a multi-billion-dollar annual spend profile across the OpEx and CapEx categories. In this role, Joel reports directly to the Chief Information and Engineering Officer (CIEO).

During his 27-year career, Joel has held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility from Intern to Programmer, Project Manager, Team Leader, Facilities Manager, Automation VP, other roles.

Joel has also participated in several of UPS’ Leadership Development initiatives, including the company’s first Senior Leadership Development Program, which exposed a group of top leaders to companies around the world in an 18-month immersive cohort. Additionally, he has participated in the McKinsey Black Executive Leadership Program and the Emory Goizueta Business School Executive Perspectives Program.

In addition to The MARCH Foundation, Joel serves on the Board of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME).

Joel is married to Kartika, his wife of more than 23 years. Their family consists of Lauren (22), Jordan (18) and Isaiah (20).
